On Thursday (10.12), Lululemon Athletica reported profits that overshadowed Wall Street expectations by a wide margin thanks to record Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales.
After initial gains following the news, the company’s shares fell by around 1% in the after-hours trading session. So far this year, Lululemon’s shares have grown by 59%.
Here are the main financial highlights from Lululemon Athletica’s Q3 2020 earnings release:
– Net revenue: $1.12 billion (up 22% year-over-year) versus expectations for $1.02 billion
– Earnings per share: $1.16 versus expectations for 88 cents
– Total income from sales: $1.1 billion (up 22% compared to last year)
Most of the company’s net revenue growth came from customers in North America (19%), which primarily shopped online. In total, according to Lululemon, direct sales (sales that the company makes straight to consumers, without any middlemen) represented 42.8% of its total quarterly revenue – almost double the growth compared to a year earlier.
We would also like to remind our readers that, earlier this year, Lululemon had purchased the exercise equipment maker Mirror for $500 million. Throughout its third quarter, Lululemon had sold many of the former manufacturer’s high-tech, mirror-like workout devices for approximately $1,500 a piece in 18 of its stores, as well as through its website.
Earnings guidance for FY 2020
So far the company has withheld its full-year financial outlook, citing COVID-19 concerns.
